Joseph Herman, a FDNY firefighter from Amityville, New York, tragically passed away at the age of 36 in a motorcycle accident on the Southern State Parkway.
The crash happened late at night and involved three vehicles.
According to reports, Joe was riding his motorcycle when the collision occurred, leading to fatal injuries.
The incident occurred near Exit 43A. Despite the swift response of the authorities to the scene, Herman passed away shortly after.
Joe Herman Was a Gifted Athlete With a Passion for Both Football and Lacrosse!
wasn’t just a dedicated FDNY firefighter; he was also a passionate athlete.
He played for the as a wide receiver wearing jersey #13.
Herman stood 6’1″ and weighed 205 lbs, , and participated in the National Public Safety Football League (NPSFL).
Moreover, he was a and a member of the Nassau Lacrosse family.
He played as a midfielder for Nassau Community College during the 2009–2010 season.
Wearing jersey number 13, a number he carried with pride across both football and lacrosse, Joey made a strong impact on the field.
As a sophomore, he played in 11 games, scoring 18 goals and adding 5 assists for a total of 23 points.
Herman also played in a memorial lacrosse game honoring his late father, Police Officer Jeff Herman, who passed away in 2017.
Beyond this, he served with Engine Company 234 in Brooklyn.
Herman’s passing left a void in the hearts of his family and the entire community where he had made his presence felt.
His fellow firefighters, friends, and community members have shared heartfelt tributes and gratitude for his service.
