Charlottesville, Virginia community mourns Albemarle High School football standout Savion Henderson, killed in a fatal car accident

The Charlottesville, Virginia, community is mourning the untimely death of beloved resident and high school athlete, Savion Henderson.
According to reports, Savion Henderson tragically lost his life in a car accident over the weekend at an untimely age, leaving his family, friends, and loved ones devastated.
In an email sent to Savion’s parents, Albemarle County Public Schools Superintendent Matthew Haas expressed his sorrow at the loss of their beloved student-athlete and extended his heartfelt condolences to the family during this difficult time.
The email reads:
“It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to you today. Over the weekend, we learned that one of our Albemarle High School students tragically lost their life in a car accident,There is no doubt that our student body and staff may struggle learning of the loss of a fellow student, classmate, and friend, but please know that we are here to support you in any way we can.”
No further details regarding the fatal accident are yet available, and the investigation is ongoing.
Furthermore, the untimely death of Savion Henderson has left a profound void in the lives of his loved ones. He touched the lives of many with his remarkable athletic skills and his kind, helpful, and jovial nature.
Many of Savion’s loved ones are sharing his memories on social media and extending their heartfelt condolences to his family.
One wrote:

The Charlottesville community honors late, a talented student-athlete from Albemarle High School, Class of 2026, who played cornerback (CB) and defensive back (DB) throughout his high school football career.
Wearing jersey #16 from freshman through junior years and switching to #24 in his senior year, Savion stood 5’9” and 135 pounds from 2026 to 2026 before growing to 5’9” and 145 pounds as a senior.

He joined the Albemarle Patriots in 2026, contributing immediately as a freshman with a team record of 8-3, a 6-1 regional record (2nd place), and a state rank of #90.
In his sophomore season, the team went 5-5, 5-2 in the region (3rd place), and achieved a state rank of #162, while his junior year saw a 3-7 overall record, 3-4 in the region (6th place), and a state rank of #237.
Savion also excelled as a multi-sport athlete, competing in JV lacrosse while continuing to develop his skills on the football field under the guidance of Head Coach Brandon Isaiah.
Known for his speed, skillfulness, and right-hand dominant defensive skills, he earned the respect of teammates and coaches for his work ethic, competitive spirit, and dedication to team success, and led his team to several victories.
Savion’s contributions to the Patriots remain a meaningful part of the school’s athletic community, and he will always be remembered for his remarkable athletic journey.
Savion Henderson is survived by his parents, grandparents, siblings, uncles, aunts, cousins, and the entire family. His family will soon provide details about his funeral and memorial services.
