WWE Hall of Famer Randy Savage Didn’t Use Drugs or Alchohol, Before His Death In 2011

Neither the death was due to injury!

Randy Savage, the late American Wrestler, was often seen as someone who used drugs due to his explosive energy, ring presence, and erratic behavior.

Though Randy never publicly admitted to drug use, he did acknowledge using anabolic steroids during his wrestling career in the 1980s. He reportedly called steroids “poison,” before he eventually quit.

There are also a couple of wild theories involving Randy “Macho Man” Savage. Teddy Long shared a story on August 20, 2026.

“So we drive over to this place, to the spot where we could get some weed from. So I see the guy, the guy sees me, he recognizes Savage because everybody watched the old TBS back then. As soon as Slater got [to] the office, he hooked the guy right in the sleeper. Hooks him right in the car; I mean, he puts the shoot sleeper on him right there and they put this guy out. They put him to sleep and took all of his cocaine, everything he had, and we got in the van and we left. That’s a true story.” —Teddy Long, via The Wrestling Time Machine

A Question That’s Still in Many Fans’ Heads

It is undoubtedly hard to conform, as both Randy and Dick passed away in 2011 and 2018, respectively. However, considering Randy, Randall Mario Poffo’s extraordinary energy, especially in the ring, it could be true.

Many people at first thought Randy, 58, had died due to a drug overdose or an accident, but it wasn’t the case, although he had crashed his car into a tree near his Florida home.

The WWE Hall of Fame actually died of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, or we can simply call it a heart attack. He was taken to Largo Medical Center, and the autopsy revealed that Savage had an enlarged heart with severe atherosclerosis in his coronary arteries.

Unsurprisingly, the Medicals did check for any use of alcohol and drugs. The Wrestling icon had a blood alcohol level of 0.031 and had hydrocodone in his system at the time of his death, but it was at a therapeutic level.

Randy Savage lost his life just a year after marrying his second wife, Barbara Lynn Payne. He divorced his first wife, Elizabeth Huelette, in 1992; they married in 1984.

• Randy savage was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2015, as part of the Class of 2015, by the late Hulk Hogan.
• Macho Man, born on November 15, 1952, in Columbus, USA, made his wrestling debut in 1973 in a regional promotion at International Championship Wrestling.
• His final match as a professional was on December 2, 2004, at TNA Turning Point, where he teamed up with AJ Styles and Jeff Hardy in a 3v3 match. They beat Jeff Jarrett, Kevin Nash, and Scott Hall.
