He wasn’t permitted to visit the federal prison in Pennsylvania where Terry was held until his release in 2013.

“I talked to him on the phone almost every week for 15 minutes at a time. That was the only relationship I was able to have with him growing up. So all the lessons that fathers normally teach their sons, I had to learn on my own.”

Although the father and son have started rebuilding their relationship, the time lost during those years remains irrecoverable.

Additionally, Jabrill has stated that they are still trying to learn about each other and develop a strong father-son bond.

“We have a good relationship, but we’re still getting to know each other again. I mean, he went away when I was seven years old and he got out when I was 18. That’s a lot of crucial years in a young man’s life that he missed.”

The story of Jabrill and his dad, Terry, is one of the most unique narratives in sport. Although he served prison time for his misdoings, Terry did play a crucial role in shaping the sporting career of his son, Jabrill.
