SUNY Graduate And Great Danes Football Player Austin Weeks Passes Away, Leaving His Parents Behind

Austin Weeks, a graduate of the University at Albany, SUNY, and a resident of Durham, North Carolina, has passed away, leaving behind his family and legacy.

He was a safety for the University at Albany Great Danes football team.

Standing 6 feet tall, he played seven games during the 2015 season, recording one tackle at Richmond on October 31.

Before his time at Albany, Austin attended Hillside High School in Durham, North Carolina, where he earned three varsity football letters.

As a senior, he totaled 36 catches for 485 yards, earning all-conference honors.

He was also part of the Hillside Hornets’ undefeated 16-0 season, which led to a Class 4A State Championship in 2010.

Born and raised in North Carolina to parents Kimberly Weeks and Robert Perry, Austin had a passion for learning and sports from a young age.

He at the University at Albany while also playing as a safety for the Great Danes football team.

Beyond academics and athletics, Austin was known for his kindness and willingness to help others.

He tutored classmates, volunteered for community projects, and built strong connections with those around him.

After graduating, Austin returned to Durham, where he remained committed to supporting youth and promoting education.

However, there is no information suggesting he pursued football professionally after college.

Tragically, he passed away on May 7, 2026. While there is no definitive information about his cause of death, a post from suggests he was killed.

His posts related to weeks passing that claim that he was killed are circulating on social media.

In one of his posts, he said:

Wish I could put my arms around all my former players and protect them from this crazy world but I don’t work like that. This one real tough man.

This post suggests that he was a coach and highlights the deep care and concern he had for his former players.
