The Moses Lake School District shared a notice stating that they made a tough but necessary call this week. They fired a coach who also worked as a substitute teacher after finding out he had inappropriate relationships with students.

Reportedly, it all started back in May 2026 when someone raised a concern about a possible improper connection between a coach, who also served as a substitute teacher, and one of the students.

The district didn’t wait around upon receiving the report. Right away, they put him on administrative leave and initiated a comprehensive investigation.

They brought in an outside investigator who wasn’t connected to the school to keep things fair, and they teamed up with the Moses Lake Police Department, too, so everything got checked out properly.

Reportedly, the investigation showed that the employee had indeed crossed lines with at least 3 students and that was enough for the school board.

During their meeting, they voted to discharge him from his job completely.

The superintendent followed state rules and sent the full findings over to the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Moses Lake School District stressed that they handle every report about student safety the same way, quickly, thoroughly, and without any shortcuts.

They know personnel stuff has to stay private for legal reasons, but they wanted the community to know they take this kind of thing very seriously.

In their statement, they said student safety is always the top priority, writing:

While personnel matters are confidential, the District remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the safety and well-being of its students.

They are committed to keeping the learning environment safe and professional for everyone. If families or anyone in the community has worries or questions, the district encourages them to reach out directly.
