The legendary name in the surfing world, Ron DiMenna, had his wife, Lynne DiMenna, throughout his career trajectory.
Ron DiMenna, the man behind the iconic Ron Jon Surf Shop, on September 6, 2026, at the age of 88.
He started surfing in 1959 near New Jersey. His dad told him to buy three surfboards, sell two, and keep one for free.
That’s how Ron got into business. In 1961, at the age of 24, he opened the first Ron Jon Surf Shop on Long Beach Island, New Jersey.
In 1963, he opened another in Cocoa Beach, Florida. His shops grew big, selling not just boards but clothes and gear for anyone who loved the beach vibe.
He was a legend in the surfing world, turning a small shop into a global name. Throughout his career trajectory, his wife, Lynne DiMenna, has had his back at all times.

While exact details about when they met or got married aren’t widely shared, it’s clear they were partners in every sense, for they ran a business together and traveled together.
Ron and Lynne were known for doing things their own way. They didn’t live in a big house or behind a desk.
Instead, they ran their surf empire from a 42-foot motorhome painted like a classic 1940s woody station wagon.
Above all, it was quirky, fun, and totally in line with them. They called it “the world’s largest woody.” Their company had it all, from laptops to satellite dishes.
Ran and Lynne lived this way for over 17 years, only staying at their Florida house for six months during that time. They were full-timers, always moving, always exploring.
Likewise, they also founded the Surfing Evolution & Preservation Foundation. It’s a nonprofit that helps keep Florida’s beaches clean and safe.
Through their “Endless Summer” license plate program, they raised money for beach conservation and education.
Lynne was always by Ron’s side, whether they were rolling down the highway in their motorhome or working behind the scenes to grow the Ron Jon brand.
