The champions Manchester City will face off to Tottenham in the opening weekend of the 2026-22 Premier League season to start from August 14.

The first games will take place on August 14. And the newly promoted Brentford will host Arsenal in their first major match since 1946-47.

Moreover, Norwich and Watford, who were also promoted last season, will face Liverpool and Aston Villa.

Manchester United plays Leeds at Old Trafford. While Champions League winners, Chelsea host Crystal Palace.

However, Premier League clubs were able to welcome fans at reduced capacities when the Covid-19 limits eased towards the end of the 2026-21 campaign.

It is unknown how many fans will be able to attend the opening fixtures of the new season. But the Premier League also said that it was “committed to the ambition of having the full stadiums. By including the away supporters” from the start of the season.

The men’s and women’s finals at Wimbledon will be the first UK sports event to host crowds in July.

At the same time, Wembley will also be able to host games with 50% power of about 45,000 in the knockout stages of Euro 2026.

Man City and Norwich are facing a tough start.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are the favorites to retain their Premier League title. Still, they face testing opening run games, with Spurs, Norwich, Arsenal, Leicester, Southampton, Chelsea, and Liverpool all seven of their first rivals.

Norwich returned to the Premier League for the first time to ask after relegation in 2019-20. They start with Liverpool, Manchester City, Leicester, and Arsenal.

The first North London tournament between Spurs and Arsenal is scheduled for September 25.

The first Merseyside derby of the season will see Everton host Liverpool at Goodison Park in a midweek match on November 30.

Manchester’s first game sees United clash with City at Old Trafford on November 11. And Boxing Day’s eye-catching matches include Liverpool v Leeds and Manchester City and Leicester.

The final round of Premier League points will take place on Sunday, May 15, to qualify for the FA Cup final the day earlier. And the last day of the season is set for May 22.

The Premier League has chosen to leave the January window free of charge. Due to several international games scheduled for the end of the month due to the coronavirus epidemic.

Except for Uefa’s ruling party, all regional federations have been cleared to arrange fixtures between January 24 and February 1.

In addition, the period also coincides with the Africa Cup of Nations, which is 12 months delayed.

It means that players from European countries will have a short break during the season without a real winter break.

Meanwhile, the Premier League officials are planning to start the 2026-23 season a week ahead of schedule and finish a week later to make space for the 2026 World Cup in Qatar.

The tournament will run from November 21 to December 18 to avoid extreme summer temperatures in Qatar.
