A 12-year-old child, identified as Preston Veal, was caught in a tragic accident while crossing Jamerson Road near Davis Elementary School.

Around 3:40 p.m. on Monday, Veal was crossing Jamerson Road from a sidewalk near Turtle Rock Drive when traveling east.

The van was driven by 28-year-old Lawrence Jackson from Ellenwood. As per the police, the boy landed on a sidewalk and suffered serious injuries.

The driver, according to initial reports, cooperated with authorities and was not reported to be injured.

As of now, no charges or arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.

Preston Veal Is In The ICU, Battling Through Immense Injuries!

Preston Veal is a 12-year-old student and a promising athlete at Mabry Middle School. He is known for his dedication to football as a member of the Lassiter Jr. Trojans.

As an upcoming 7th grader, Preston has already earned a reputation for his determination and spirit on the field.

On June 23, 2026, his young life took a tragic turn when he was hit by a van while using the crosswalk on Jamerson Road near Davis Elementary School.

He suffered multiple serious injuries, including fractures in both legs, a torn aorta, bruised lungs, and a lacerated liver.

He was first taken to a local hospital and later airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, where he remains in the ICU undergoing intensive care and surgeries.

In response to the incident, Megan Wagers is organizing a GoFundMe campaign “” on behalf of Bernice Veal.

The purpose of the fundraiser is to help cover the overwhelming medical expenses.

This aims to provide financial assistance to Preston’s mother, who has taken time off work to be by her son’s side during his recovery.

Additionally, the funds will assist with surgeries, hospital stays, travel, and other needs that arise as Preston faces a long road to healing.

The campaign has also become a way for the community to rally around Preston, sending prayers, support, and encouragement during this incredibly difficult time.
