After Dave’s untimely passing in 2003, Gerri continued to honor his legacy while battling her

Tragically, Gerri succumbed to cancer in late October 2009, six years after Dave’s demise.

Keri Gaither, the athletic director of the University of Detroit Mercy Athletics (UDM), and senior associate athletic director Daron Montgomery paid tribute to the enduring legacy of the power couple during Gerri’s funeral.

Reflecting on the couple’s impact, they expressed their gratitude for the family,

“We were honored that the DeBusscheres have asked their family and friends for memorial gifts to their Dad’s scholarship fund, instead of flowers. It’s important that Daron and I be there Sunday and Monday to represent the University. Dave and Gerri meant so much to so many Titan alumni and fans for so many years.”
