Jean Oliver alleges that her 13-year-old daughter was attacked by two other students across the basketball court at Sunset Middle School.
The incident occurred at recess, which is around 1 p.m., but she didn’t call from the school until 3:11 p.m.
High school is supposed to be a time for learning and friendship, but for some students, it can feel like a nightmare because of bullying.
Bullying isn’t often physical, but can be cruel when a group of girls excludes another student, whispering and laughing as she walks by. It’s spreading rumors or giving someone the silent treatment for no reason.
Its effects are very real and can make a person feel alone, anxious, and worthless. Moreover, it makes them dread coming to school every single day.
If you see someone being left out or talked about, don’t just stand by. A simple act of kindness, like sitting with them at lunch, saying hello in the hall, or sending a supportive message, can make a huge difference.
Talk to someone you trust, a parent, teacher, counselor, or friend. You deserve to feel safe and respected. Schools have policies against bullying, and adults are there to help, not judge.
It takes courage to be kind, but it’s a courage that can change someone’s entire world.
Mother Seeks Justice After Daughter Attacked at Sunset Middle School
A mother in Arnaudville is demanding action after her 13-year-old daughter was severely beaten at Sunset Middle School.
Jean Oliver detailed the incident in a lengthy Facebook post. She states that her daughter, Alayah, was attacked by two students during recess.
Oliver claims her daughter was dragged across a basketball court by her hair, thrown to the ground, and beaten.
The school did not notify her of the incident until over two hours after it occurred. She says her daughter was placed alone in a room and not allowed to call her.
Despite being a victim of the attack, Alayah was reportedly suspended for two days and even had to ride the bus home with one of her attackers.
Alayah subsequently sustained injuries from the attack, and Oliver took her to the hospital.
Laughing at a child being hurt is pathetic! And some of y’all call yourselves parents! Smh …. Clearly you wasn’t raised correct!
Furthermore, Oliver alleges this was not an isolated event.
She claims she had repeatedly reported bullying and harassment from the same group of students to school administrators throughout the previous year and this current school year, including incidents where children came to her home to fight her daughter.
The whole school staff made Alayah the problem, and when she started to feel like she wasn’t being heard, she took matters into her own hands and gave them the same energy she was receiving.
Oliver states she has met with the St. Landry Parish School Board superintendent, but was dissatisfied with the response.
She is now calling for accountability from the school and the district, alleging a systemic failure to protect her child. She has a voice recording of some of the kids’ parents who called her daughter a hoe.
The post has garnered significant online support, with many commenters encouraging her to continue pursuing official reports and legal action.
The Sunset Middle School Board has not yet issued a public statement regarding the allegations.
How painful for you both to have to go through this. Her being abused like this AT school which should be a safe space and then you fighting for her and no one doing anything about it. Don’t stop until you get results and justice. This is unacceptable!!
