On March 30, 2004, Schoop’s brother joined the San Francisco Giants as an undrafted free agent. In the Giants, Sharlon played in the minor league system from 2005 until 2011.

During that period, in 2010, he went all the way up to the Double-A Richmond Flying Squirrels.

Furthermore, talking about his international career, Schoop competed at the 2009 World Baseball Classics in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Miami, Florida, for the Netherlands national team.
