His professional career began in July 2017 at the age of 31, signing with Hayemaker Ringstar & won his debut fight against Ian Lewison.

Prior to that, he had a successful amateur career, winning the super heavyweight class at the 2012 ABA Championships and the 2012 GB Amateur Boxing Championships.

Moreover, as an amateur, he won the gold medal in the super heavyweight division at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the 2015 European Games.

In that period, he won the Commonwealth Heavyweight title, the WBA Gold Heavyweight title & WBO interim heavyweight title.

Also, he broke a 106-year record to win Commonwealth heavyweight title in just four professional bouts after Lenroy Thomas in May 2018.

However, on April 15, 2026, in his 16th bout, he lost to Zhilei Zhang by TKO. It was his first-ever defeat in his professional career & thus, lost his WBO interim heavyweight title.

With that, Joe Joyce stands with a boxing record of 15-1.
