On January 4, 2026, the DeLeon family was enjoying their trip to Kenya when a tragic car accident occurred, shattering their lives.

Along with the DeLeon family, a few other families, including the Christopher family, were also involved in the accident.

Following the crash, Emmanuel and his younger brother Kairu passed away at the scene, while their parents and sister Njeri survived.

Njeri, who is a junior at West High and a former Hoover Hawk, was taken to the ICU and is reported to be in critical condition.

With the passing of the young ones during the holiday trip, not just the DeLeon family, but the whole Waterloo community seems to be in a period of mourning.

Expressing support and sympathy to the family, many have offered heartfelt posts and financial support.

One of the loved ones, in a Facebook comment, expressed support and shared a memory of Emmanuel, saying;

Prayers to the family during this difficult time. Emmanuel was such a happy kid every time I saw him and I won’t forget the day he tried to take my Starbucks cup one morning out my door when my son was getting out and my son told him theres nothing in there that you would want to drink. It was good laughs. R.I.P. Emmanuel and Kairo.

Now that the DeLeon family is processing this tragic loss, we would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and everyone who knew Emmanuel.

Rest in Peace, Young Souls!
