DJ Phillips Breaks Silence on Life-Altering Cyberbullying Ordeal
DJ Phillips wanted a normal high school experience, but found himself trapped in a nightmare of online impersonation that spilled into his real life.
It led to confrontations, fear, and a long fight for justice.
The ordeal began in the fall of 2026, during DJ’s sophomore year.
A fake TikTok account, using his photos and videos, surfaced. He initially brushed it off as a prank, but the account escalated rapidly.
The impersonator posted defamatory content, spreading false stories about him getting a DUI and being kicked off the football team. The truth was that surgeries actually sidelined him.
In addition to DJ, a fake account of his father, Danny Phillips, was also created.
The comfort level of someone to not only do this to him, but to get his parents involved.
The online harassment soon had real-world consequences.
DJ was confronted multiple times at a concert at Pine Knob by strangers who believed the fake narratives.
It was confusing. I’ve read, and I heard about that happening, like in the form of catfishing, different things like that.
It took a toll. He wasn’t sleeping … I started to watch him kind of close off.
After months of harassment, DJ’s family contacted the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.
An investigation traced the fake accounts to a 15-year-old girl from Novi, someone DJ and his family did not know.
In a December 2026 court hearing, the girl admitted to creating the accounts but claimed she randomly selected DJ and did it “only for likes on social media.“
DJ directly addressed her in court, reading an impact statement detailing how the campaign led him to have suicidal thoughts.
Oakland County Judge Lisa Gorcyca placed the girl on probation, ordering her to participate in counseling, pay for DJ’s therapy, perform community service, and have no contact with the Phillips family.
She is also barred from social media except under supervision.
DJ shares his story to highlight the devastating impact of cyberbullying and online impersonation. He expressed that he wouldn’t do that to his worst enemy.
