David William Cowens, a legendary figure in basketball history, married Deborah Ann Cimaylo on April 15, 1978, in New York.
Born on October 25, 1948, in Newport, Kentucky, he rose to prominence at Florida State University, where he excelled as a dynamic and hardworking center.
He was selected 4th overall by the Celtics in the 1970 NBA Draft.
Cowen has won the 1971 NBA Rookie of the Year and the 1973 NBA Most Valuable Player.
After retirement, he served as the head coach of the San Antonio Spurs, Celtics, Charlotte Hornets, and Golden State Warriors.

Deby Cownes is a nutrition specialist with a background in holistic healing.
Despite maintaining a private life, Deby has been a supportive partner throughout Dave’s basketball career and subsequent endeavors. However, no photos of them together are available.
The couple raised two daughters together, Meghan Cowens and Samantha Cowens. The family has resided in various locations, including Maine and Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Regarding Dave as a father, Deby said,
“David has always been a down- to-earth guy and he is a great father. He is serious about what he does, but he never takes himself too seriously. I loved that about him: He never got all caught up in himself.”

Samantha graduated from Bishop O’Dowd, whereas Meghan graduated from the University of North Carolina.
Regarding his daughters, Cowens said,
“Life is good. My daughters and their families live in the same neighborhood as us. We can walk to each others’ homes. My wife and I, we have been very blessed.”

One of their daughters has followed in her father’s athletic footsteps, playing basketball at the Division III level.
The couple has three grandchildren altogether.
