A situation at J. Colin English Elementary is causing significant concern among parents after a substitute physical education teacher was reportedly removed from his position.
Parents allege the teacher engaged in inappropriate conduct with students, but some feel the school’s response has been insufficient.
According to parent Janelli Leal, the substitute PE teacher, referred to as “Coach P,” was removed from his role after students reported he was taking pictures of them during class.
In a widely shared Facebook post, she states that multiple children were made to perform “weird push ups with their butts in the air.“
Coach P allegedly repeated the word “butts” and exhibited other strange behaviors. He was also dancing with the kids, which made it even weirder.
However, when Leal contacted the school’s principal, she was told the information was inaccurate, and nothing happened.
The principal stated the substitute had been banned from campus because he made two students feel uncomfortable, but that his phone was not out long enough to take any pictures.
According to the principal, she interviewed with another PE coach, and the incident involving push-ups didn’t happen.
School districts have protocols for handling such allegations.
The standard response emphasized by multiple education leaders is to prioritize student safety and ensure a thorough, fair investigation.
The school is protecting the predator and calling the victims liars. This is not ok.
Leal is urging all parents to file complaints with the school board, county commissioners, and the sheriff’s department, a collective effort for student safety.
The situation at J. Colin English Elementary remains a point of heated disagreement between concerned parents and school administrators.
It highlights the strike between conducting fair investigations, following legal protocol, and ensuring the safety and trust of their students and community.
