She embarked on a demanding process of classes, home studies, safety checks, and countless preparations to welcome a child. She transformed her life and her home, all while praying for what was to come.

Her Facebook post detailed how Thomas came to her as a frail, silent foster child.
Initially, Lauren saw only a deeply traumatized boy who was severely underweight, covered in sores, and terrified of basic care like taking a bath.
I’ll never forget the first night that he slept in my home. He held my arm, and every time I’d go to take his hand loose, he’d wake up and get it again. And then, the vomiting began. And again and again.
Medical exams confirmed he was a victim of starvation and abuse.
It was only months later that the whole, horrifying truth emerged. Thomas had witnessed the murder of his biological mother in Florida, who was stabbed 32 times with a machete by her boyfriend.
He referred to his biological mother as “his first mom” and her boyfriend as “his first dad.” He was found 24 hours later, wrapped in a blood-soaked blanket.
After the death of his mother, he lived with his abusive dad and stepmom in Alabama, where he was tasered, forced to sleep outside, and denied food.
Thomas was empty, sad, and afraid. However, he loves his dad, even to this day.
The path to recovery was long, requiring years of trauma-focused therapy.
Slowly, Thomas began to emerge from his shell, learning to experience and express emotions again. He discovered the simple joys of being a child. His story is one of devastating loss but also of incredible hope.
Today, he is a healthy, adopted son who loves video games, fishing, and football.
Lauren shared his story not for sympathy, but to encourage others.
She urges everyone to be kind, as you never know what struggle someone is facing, and to consider fostering, calling Thomas “the most precious gift.”
