Eric’s mother died when he was only eight years old, further adding to his miseries. And if that wasn’t enough, the poor kid was frequently bullied at school for being overweight.

Thus, to vent out all his frustrations, the Georgia native started taking boxing lessons. As a matter of fact, Butterbean even won a local Toughman Contest, which gave him the confidence to pursue a career in combat sports.

Age, Height & Body Measurements

Being born in 1966 makes Eric 59 years old.

Moreover, Butterbean’s recorded height is 5 feet 11 inches (1.82 meters), while his last known weight was 193 kg (425 pounds).

The Georgia native was one of the heaviest fighters during his career. Thus his weight should come as no surprise.

Career

Butterbean is a man with loads of talent incorporated within him. Hence, the 59-year-old participated in almost all the professional combat sports present at the time. Notably, Eric has fought in boxing, MMA, kickboxing, and wrestling.

So, first, let’s talk about the sport Esch began his professional career with, boxing. The 5 feet 11 (1.80 meters) heavyweight started fighting in 1994 and enjoyed a successful career.

Most notably, Eric won the IBA Super Heavyweight Championship in 1997 and defended his title five times before losing in 2000. He also got the nickname ‘King of the 4 Rounders’ as most of his bouts were scheduled for just 4 rounds.

Eric Butterbean vs. Larry Holmes

His most famous fight has to be against the great Larry Holmes. Although Holmes was at the end of his glorious career, he still managed to beat Butterbean.

Moreover, the fight was also Eric’s first 10-round bout. Fatigue certainly played a part in the 59-year-old’s loss.

Nonetheless, at the end of his boxing career, Eric had 77 wins, 10 losses, and four draws. 58 of those 77 victories had come via knockout, highlighting Butterbean’s punching power.

Kickboxing Career

Talking about his kickboxing career, Esch started his venture into the sport in 2003. However, the 59-year-old remained in this sport for only two years.

The main reason is, Butterbean found it extremely difficult to adapt to a sport that was exactly the opposite of boxing.

As a result, the Atlanta native finished his two years in the K-1 promotion with a record of 3 wins and 4 losses. Nevertheless, Eric did have some memorable moments during his time with K-1.

Butterbean won his debut fight in K-1 with a knockout in the first round against Yusuke Fujimoto in 2003 and won his last ever kickboxing match in 2005 against Moon-Bi Lam in the very first round.

MMA Career

Moving onto his MMA career, Butterbean had a respectable record of 17 wins, 10 losses, and a draw.

But his foray into the MMA world did not begin smoothly as he lost his first fight and then drew his second.

Thus, having started on a high note, the pressure was on the Atlanta native to deliver as per the spectators’ expectations. And that was what Esch did as he won his next six bouts taking his record to 6-1-1.

Furthermore, Butterbean also fought in the former MMA giant Pride Fighting Championship.

He appeared in the last-ever event organized by Pride FC in 2007, a fight Eric won via submission in the first round.

After that, Esch fought again in 1999 at WrestleMania XV, knocking out Brawl for All champion Bart Gunn in just 36 seconds.

The retired boxer decided to lose weight and lead a healthy life. So, he participated in a TV documentary with Page, a famous wrestler who helped celebrities to lose weight.

As his chance to fight the Iron Mike slipped away, and after cutting down on weights, he is looking forward to fighting against a loudmouth YouTuber Jake Paul. We might see Eric return to the ring in the near future, fighting against Jake.
