Eastern Alamance Mourns the Loss of Coaching Legend Jeff Modlin, Whose Passing Leaves a Void in North Carolina Sports

Jeff Modlin, an Eastern Alamance High School coach, passed away unexpectedly on July 31, 2026. He was recently inducted into the Mebane Softball Hall of Fame.
His son, Michael, survives him and his legacy of coaching young athletes since 1985.
Jeff Modlin had been a driving force behind the success of youth football in North Carolina for over three decades.
Since beginning his coaching career in 1985, Modlin has instilled a culture of consistency, dedication, and pride in his teams, leading them to multiple championships.
He had an undefeated 2009 season with the Mebane Eagles. The Eagles, part of the North Carolina Recreation and Parks Association, have long been a powerhouse in youth football.
Their dominant 32-0 victory over the Person County Panthers in the first round of the Statewide Athletic Committee (SWAC) playoffs at Fred Brady Athletic Stadium showcased their strength.
Modlin often reminded his team to be a champion, and he knew what it took to win.
He had led the Alamance County Midgets to three state titles, and the Mebane Eagles have claimed championships in 1974, 1978, 1992, 2004, and 2006.
His leadership inspired young athletes, proving that hard work and teamwork lead to lasting success. Sadly, his unexpected passing saddened the whole community, and many remember him in their tragic, heartfelt post.
Eastern Alamance and the Mebane community lost a great person and a great coach today. Jeff Modlin was a coach who cared deeply for this school, this community, and the kids that were a part of it. Though his last season coaching was the 2026-2026 school year, his impact on the community and the school will be felt well past his time. Thank you for everything, Coach Modlin. We will miss you.

He was a beloved coach, mentor, and local legend, known for his unwavering dedication to his family, his players, and the game he loved.
Jeff was a pillar of strength and inspiration, whose impact reached far beyond the field, shaping the lives of countless young athletes and fellow coaches.
He was a proud member of the Eastern Alamance family and often spoke fondly of the community he cherished.
His passion for coaching was unmatched, and his leadership extended beyond wins and losses. He taught discipline, perseverance, and the value of teamwork.
Prayers and condolences to all of Jeff Modlin’s family and friends. I have a lot of memories with him. From being one of my brother’s great friends to him coaching my son for so many years. Extra prayers for his son and his joy, Michael ❤️
Jeff’s legacy in sports was legendary. He was a standout on the softball field and earned a well-deserved place in the Mebane Softball Hall of Fame, which solidified his status as one of the greats.
Yet, his most incredible pride came from inspiring others, whether it was the players he coached or the fellow coaches he motivated to give their best every day.
Above all, Jeff treasured his role as a father. His son, Michael, was his greatest joy and continues to carry forward his father’s spirit of resilience and kindness.

Jeff Modlin’s memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched through every game played, every life he changed, and the love he shared with his family.
