Delaware County Softball Coach Brent Trimbell Arrested For Child Sex Abuse In Ongoing Investigation

A small upstate community has been rocked by disturbing allegations after Brent Trimbell, a 44-year-old man and part-time softball coach, was arrested on June 17, 2026, for the rape and sexual abuse of two underage victims, according to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.
Trimbell, a resident of Hobart, is accused of engaging in sexual conversations with the minors over two months and allegedly forcibly assaulting one of the victims.
Officials say the abuse occurred across multiple towns in Delaware County, including Sidney, Delhi, Kortright, and Andes.
Brent Trimbell Was One Of The Victims’ Softball Coach
Adding a deeper layer of betrayal to the case, authorities confirmed that Trimbell was also the softball coach of at least one of the victims.
The Stamford Central School District, where he worked as a part-time athletic coach, released a statement saying it is aware of the arrest and is fully cooperating with law enforcement.
The district said,
“The safety of our students and school community is always our highest priority. We are deeply concerned and will work closely with authorities as this investigation continues.”
Upon receiving the complaint on Tuesday, Delaware County Sheriff’s Investigators acted swiftly.
The victims were brought to the Delaware County Child Advocacy Center, where forensic interviews corroborated the initial allegations.
This led to the seizure of electronic devices containing what investigators call “supporting evidence” of the crimes.
Trimbell was located later that day at his residence.
After a lengthy interrogation, he was arrested and formally charged with rape in the first degree (Class B Felony), two counts of aggravated sexual abuse in the third degree (Class D Felonies) and endangering the welfare of a child (Class A Misdemeanor).
He was arraigned in Delaware County Central Arraignment Court and remanded to the county jail in lieu of $300,000 bail or $600,000 secured bond.
The Community Has Been Shocked And Outraged By The Heinous Crime
The news has sent shockwaves through the quiet communities of Delaware County.
Parents and residents have expressed anger, disbelief, and heartbreak over the accusations, especially given Trimbell’s position of trust as a youth coach.
Moreover, Brent was a married man with a wife and kids.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, along with Child Protective Services, Safe Against Violence, and the Child Advocacy Center, is continuing the investigation.
Sheriff Craig S. DuMond noted that additional charges may be forthcoming as new evidence is uncovered.
In a statement, DuMond urged the public to come forward:
