Beloved Harrison County Banker and Swim Coach David Jackson Griffith Dies at 78, Survived by Wife of 56 Years, Tamara Griffith!

David Jackson Griffith, a beloved community figure from Clarksburg, took her last breath at the United Hospital Center on February 15, 2026, at 78.
Born on October 2, 1946, in Clarksburg, was the son of the late Roy and Vandora Ashcraft Griffith.
David is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 56 years, Tamara LeBrun “Tammy” Griffith.
The long-term married couple, David and Tamara, walked down the aisle on October 26, 1968. Tamara, affectionately known as Tammy, stood firm beside him until his last day.
Together, they raised a tight-knit family of four kids: son, Brian Scott Griffith, and three daughters, Tracy Lynn Valenti, Kristy Dawn Scarlata, and Kelly Ann Weaver.
Their son, Brian, is married to , daughter Kristy Dawn Scarlata is married to , and daughter Kelly Ann Weaver is married to .
Their daughters, Kelly and Tracy, updated their Facebook profile pictures to nostalgic photos featuring themselves with their parents, David and Tamara.
In addition to his wife and kids, David Jackson is survived by 10 grandchildren and three great-grandsons.
His granddaughter, , updated her Facebook profile picture with a picture of her dancing with her granddad David during her wedding. She married on November 12, 2026.
Following his wishes, David will be cremated. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Amos Carvelli Funeral Home on February 23, 2026, concluding with a vigil service at 6:30 pm.
David Jackson Griffith Was a Longtime Coach of the Stealey Swim Team!
A 1964 graduate of Washington Irving High School, David furthered his education with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Fairmont State College. He served his country as a United States Air Force veteran during the Vietnam War.
David Jackson Griffith built his career in the banking industry. He worked at Union National Bank, starting as a CPA in the 1970s and eventually rising to become a Bank President.
He held the role of firm even when the bank went through several mergers, including with Bank One and Chase.
In 1998, David joined Harrison County Bank as President and CEO, a position he held until his retirement in 2008.
Even after retiring, he continued to serve on the bank’s Board of Directors until the present time.
Besides his banking career, David was a beloved coach. He was known for coaching the Stealey Swim Team in the 1980s.
Many of those who know Coach Dave remember him at practice in his business suit straight from the bank.
In his later years, he came out of retirement to coach some of his grandchildren in the newly formed Clarksburg Swim Team.
David was an active community member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church throughout his life. He served on numerous community and professional boards, seeking to give back to the community.
