Antigonish County Youth Basketball Player Aidan Roy Denny passes away following a road accident on Nova Scotia Highway 104

Antigonish County is mourning the loss of a Youth Basketball player, identified as Aidan Roy Denny. He died following a collision on Highway 104 late Friday evening.

The emergency services responded at about 9:50 p.m. to a crash near Dagger Woods Road and Pomquet Monks Head Road.

The passenger from the black Toyota RAV4, Aidan Denny, was pronounced dead at the hospital, while others involved in the crash were treated for injuries.

According to the Police, a RAV4 and a large farm/construction vehicle were involved in the accident. The vehicle fled the scene after the incident, but it was later seized, which was believed to be the same one involved.

While the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Service investigates the accident, the RCMP is searching for eyewitnesses, specifically anyone traveling along Highway 104 who witnessed the accident.

Local police have asked anyone with information to contact the Antigonish County District RCMP at 902-863-6500.

Tributes pour in for the Middle Schooler

In a social-media tribute, Aidan’s uncle, Michael R. Denny, described the boy as kind-hearted and full of wonder: he loved being outdoors with his dad and friends, sharing snacks, and playing basketball on the street and at school.

Michael wrote about the small everyday things the family now holds close, whispered bedtime words, giggles, and hugs.

His devastated father added, “I will always love and miss you, my son. I am so heartbroken.”

Hugh Paul, a basketball coach, added, “I just met Aiden recently, he tried out and made our HS basketball team & had so much potential. I am glad I got to know such a kind soul who treated everyone with respect. Forever young & gone too soon.”

Aidan’s passing has left a void not just in his family and close ones, but also among his teammates and the entire Antigonish County community.

A child whose smile could brighten a whole room had tremendous potential to become a great player in the future, which now remains just a dream for his heartbroken parents and close ones.
