Allegheny College Coach Ben Mourer, 39, Passes Away, Leaving His Wife Kim And Two Sons Behind

In a moment that has deeply shaken the Allegheny College community and beyond, Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach Ben Mourer, Class of 2007, tragically passed away in a home accident on Sunday, June 15.
He was just 39 years old.
Bill Ross, Director of Athletics and Recreation at Allegheny, shared the heartbreaking news in a message to the college community, expressing profound sorrow at the loss.
Ross wrote,
“We extend our sincerest thoughts and prayers to Ben’s family — his wife Kim, and sons Arthur and Henry.”
Ben Mourer Devoted His Life To Athletics And Education
Ben Mourer was a coach, leader, mentor, friend, and family man whose life was dedicated to making others better, not just on the track, but in life.
A proud Allegheny alumnus and standout athlete, Mourer returned to his alma mater in 2015 to take the reins as head cross country coach and later ascended to head track and field coach in 2026.
During his tenure, the Gators achieved remarkable success under his guidance, winning multiple conference championships and producing numerous NCAA Division III All-Americans.
His coaching accolades include four-time NCAC Cross Country Coach of the Year, and five PAC coaching honors since 2026.
He also led the women’s team to a clean sweep of PAC titles (cross country, indoor & outdoor track) in 2026–23, and coached Emily Forner to an NCAA Indoor National Title in the 3K (2019).
Furthermore, Ben helped six teams and three individuals qualify for D-III Nationals.
Ben Mourer’s Journey From Student-Athlete To NCAA Powerhouse Coach Was Amazing
As a student, Ben Mourer embodied the spirit of competition and academic excellence.
He was a four-year Alden Scholar, a 12-time conference champion, and a six-time All-NCAC honoree in track and field.
He played a critical role in Allegheny’s best-ever national finish in cross country, a third-place showing in 2006.
After graduation, Mourer sharpened his coaching skills at Coe College in Iowa.
He started as an assistant while earning his Master’s in Teaching and rose to become the head cross country and associate track coach.
His time there saw Coe’s first IIAC champion, its first NCAA track champion, and the rewriting of school records by his distance athletes.

Ben Mourner’s impact extended far beyond trophies and titles. Tributes have poured in from former students, colleagues, and friends:

He and his wife, Kim, who is also an Allegheny graduate, made Meadville their home, raising their sons, Arthur and Henry, in the very town that shaped their own college memories.
During this challenging time, the Allegheny community has come together to support one another.
