Authorities confirm that Jok Mayom Jr. died from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash.

The Grimes community is mourning the tragic loss of 18-year-old Jok Mayom Jr., who died from injuries sustained in a rollover car accident on June 27, 2026.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the crash in the 700 block of NE Edgewood Drive in Grimes shortly before 5:30 p.m.

Deputies and emergency crews rushed to the scene after receiving reports of a single-vehicle rollover.

When they arrived, they discovered that Mayom was the sole occupant of the vehicle. He had suffered severe injuries in the crash.

First responders transported him to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition over the weekend.

Despite the efforts of medical staff, Mayom succumbed to his injuries on Monday, June 30.

The Sheriff’s Office publicly confirmed his passing later that day, expressing condolences to his family and loved ones.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the accident.

Investigators are actively gathering witness statements and analyzing evidence from the crash site to piece together what led to the tragic incident.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has assured the public that it will release additional information once its investigation is complete.
