In 1988, the New Jersey Nets drafted Derrick in the third round as the 52nd overall pick. However, he did not sign the contract with them and, later, could not make it to the NBA. 

But Derrick had a long career in the European leagues. With the Greek League, he had a notable career.

During his tenure, he played for several teams, such as Sporting, AEK Athens, Apollon Patras, and Irakleio. 

Derrick also played for the Spanish second division. In addition to that, he also played with the Israeli teams, Hapoel Holon and Hapoel Eilat.
