Former NBA player Tim Duncan is of Afro-Caribbean ethnicity, with roots in the U.S. Virgin Islanders, where he was born and raised.

Having spent his whole career with the San Antonio Spurs, Tim is regarded as one of the greatest players in the sport’s history.

Although he was born in Saint Croix, Virgin Islands, Tim is of African through his parents.

Duncan’s parents immigrated from Anguilla, where his father worked as a mason, and his mother was a professional midwife.

Many Virgin Islanders have African ancestry, and Tim grew up in a community that reflected this rich heritage.

In a by San Antonio Spurs, Duncan talked about his origin and what it was like growing up on Virgin Island. He said:

Looking back, I really grew up in a very great location, small community.
