Ex-Amherst Dooly’s Blues Hockey Player, Brad Blenkhorn, Who Lived As An Amputee Dies Suddenly, Leaving His Partner Sandra Behind

Folks are devastated by the passing of Brad Blenkhorn and have sent their heartfelt condolences to his family.
Brad was a familiar face in the NSIBL, having played with the Amherst Dooly’s Blues, the Maccan Royals, and most recently, the Amherst MacEachern Insurance Athletics.
He was a solid infielder with a potent left-handed bat and, more importantly, a great teammate and friend to many.
After facing a serious accident at a young age, he didn’t let that stop him.
During his school years in River Hebert, he continued to play the sports he loved, including soccer and basketball.
Later, he gave back as a basketball coach. One of his proudest achievements was representing in the Hockey World Championships, where he and his team brought home the gold.
Family And Friends Mourn The Loss Of Brad Blenkhorn
He is survived by his loving partner Sandra, his mother Carole, and his cherished children, who were the center of his world.
Brad’s older brother, Kevin, also left us far too soon in 2026 after a brave fight with cancer.
Kevin made his mark as a long drive golf champion, and anyone who saw his legendary home run at Robb’s ballfield won’t forget it.
Councillor Dwayne Ripley from the Town of Amherst shared a heartfelt tribute following the loss of Brad Blenkhorn.
He spoke about their special bond, saying Brad had a unique way of lifting him when he needed encouragement or keeping him grounded when he needed that more.
Brad was one of the people he cherished talking to the most. He remembered Brad as a devoted father, a gifted athlete, a passionate coach, and a true friend.
The loss is deeply felt, and the love and respect for Brad will continue.
The world lost one of the best yesterday. You always had a way to build me up if I needed it or take me down a notch, which I usually needed more. One of my favourite people to talk to in the world. You were a great father, an amazing athlete, dedicated coach, and an even better friend. Until we meet again brother Brad Blenkhorn ❤️ so much love for you.
The Amherst Adult Hockey League shared their heartfelt condolences, saying that the Amherst sports community, AAHL alumni, and many others lost a true friend.
Brad Blenkhorn was more than just an athlete. He was an inspiration, showing everyone what was possible through strength and determination while living as an amputee.
