Sadly, in Brazil, it was hard for an aspiring young player to stand out. So after he turned 15, he decided to go to the United States to practice and play soccer and study.
During his time in the US, just one random day, his close friends convinced him to try out for the American football team as a kicker.
At first, he wasn’t ready as he was very focused on soccer and wasn’t much interested in football.
“I had no intention of playing it. I was never a big guy, so I wanted to stay away from that because I didn’t want to get hurt. My focus was on soccer. But they explained to me that in the kicker position you just enter the field, kick the ball, score a goal, and then leave. So, I went, out of curiosity.”

Not even within weeks, Cairo started knocking over field goals from 55 and 57 distances and yards that would test a seasoned NFL kicker to their limit.

“The groin got sore and then from there when I just tried to kick it kept straining the groin and they let me rest, but I think it was the third game that year it tore really bad in the middle of the game and I kept playing through it and just kept tearing worse. “It made the situation on my groin just worse and it took longer to recover.”
So, on September 26, 2017, the Kansas City Chiefs placed Santos on injured reserve. After recovering for some time, Cairo returned to action, and on November 20, 2017, he signed with the Chicago Bears.
